Corregidor has always been associated with bravery, gallantry and heroism. And it seems so appropriate that it is part of Cavite City, known for its gallant and brave heroes. Yet very few people are aware that in 1909, Corregidor and its adjacent islands of Caballo, La Monja, El Fraile, Santa Amalia, Carabao and Limbones, as well as all waters and detached rocks surrounding them form part of Cavite City by virtue of Executive Order No. 124 of Gov. Gen. W. Cameron Forbes.
Today, the whole island has been declared a shrine. The new development plan conceptualized by the Department of Tourism and the Phil. Tourism Authority together with the Corregidor Foundation, the Dept. of National Defense and Architect Bobby Manosa has transformed the island fortress. There is a museum at the Pacific War Memorial Complex and an inspiring Eternal Flame of Freedom Sculpture. There are several other memorials in the island. The highlight of a Corregidor tour is the light and sound show at the Malinta Tunnel.
